STALLRYGG

Gloppen, Norway

Nestled on the southern shores of Gloppefjorden, amidst the picturesque landscape, lies Stall Rygg at the Sjöa farm. Here, Morten and Lise run a stable together with their three children. Here they offer off the grid living and both horseback riding.

But Stall Rygg is more than just a stable; it's a gateway to a bygone era, where traditions are cherished and simplicity reigns supreme. One such tradition is the Norwegian støl, or støyl, a quaint milking place nestled deep within the wilderness. In days gone by, it was not uncommon for farmers to embark on a journey from their farms to the støl and back in a single day, tending to their herds morning and evening.

For the Rygg family, their støl resides in the idyllic Traudalen, a mere 15 minutes from their farmstead. Here, guests can step back in time by renting the charming house nestled amidst the mountain pastures. It's an opportunity to disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with nature. And for those who are adept at horse riding, the journey to Traudalen on horseback adds an extra layer of adventure and authenticity to the experience.

Life at the støl is simple; there's no electricity, and water is drawn from the nearby river. It's a return to basics, where the rhythm of daily life is dictated by the rising and setting of the sun. As guests sip their morning coffee on the porch, they're greeted by the gentle sound of goats grazing at their feet.
